About Department:

Established in 1997, the Department of Marathi is committed to creating awareness among students about Marathi language, literature, and culture. The department strives to nurture students’ linguistic, literary, and communication abilities through academic learning and various co-curricular activities. It aims to inspire students to value the cultural and social significance of Marathi while developing their confidence and creativity.

The department emphasizes both academic excellence and career development. It offers several skill-based and job-oriented courses that help students prepare for professional careers in areas such as education, media, journalism, translation, content development, and public communication. These courses are designed to meet the changing demands of society and the modern workplace.

Marathi is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and plays an important role in print media, television, films, digital platforms, and social media. Considering the increasing use of Marathi in modern communication, the Department believes that this is the right time to focus on applied language studies and practical language skills. The department therefore works continuously to equip students with both cultural knowledge and professional competence, enabling them to contribute effectively to society and various career fields.

 

Faculty Profile - Dr. Savita Pawar, Head of Department:

Dr. Savita Madhaorao Pawar is a respected academician and researcher in the field of Marathi language and literature. She serves as a Professor in the Department of Marathi at Smt. Sindhutai Jadhao Arts & Science College. With more than two decades of teaching experience, she has made valuable contributions to Marathi education, literary research, and student development.

Dr. Pawar completed her higher education from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and qualified the NET examination in 2000. She earned her Ph.D. in Marathi in 2006 with research focused on female characters in Marathi novels. Her academic interests include feminist literature, rural literature, folk traditions, and Marathi literary criticism. Since joining the institution in 2000, she has actively participated in orientation programmes, refresher courses, seminars, conferences, and workshops organized by academic institutions and the University Grants Commission. She has published several research papers in national and international journals on topics related to Marathi literature, women’s studies, and social issues.

Dr. Pawar is also the author of the book Aashrunchi Zali Fule : Swarup Ani Samiksha. Along with teaching and research, she has contributed to cultural, literary, and institutional activities, including editing the college magazine Saptarang and participating in NSS and Youth Festival programmes.

U.G. in the faculty Humanities – for B.A.

B.A. in Major Subject in Marathi in the faculty Humanities: Student shall have to select any one Minor of the same faculty (other than Marathi) available in the College i.e. from (English, English Literature, Marathi Literature, Home Economics, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History) along with the major Marathi.

B.A. in Major Subject in Marathi Literature in the faculty Humanities: Student shall have to select any one Minor of the same faculty (other than Marathi) available in the College i.e. from (English, English Literature, Marathi, Home Economics, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History) along with the major Marathi.

Eligibility - Any H.S.S.C. or H.S.S.C. Vocational Passed Out Student.

Syllabus:

The Department of Marathi follows the syllabus and implementation framework prescribed under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) for the Three/Four-Year Undergraduate Programme with Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit options. The department adopts the guidelines issued by the Government of Maharashtra through the letters dated 27 February 2024 and 13 March 2024, along with the Government Resolution dated 14 March 2024. Implemented under the Faculty of Humanities of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, this scheme aims to provide students with flexible learning opportunities, skill development, academic progression, and holistic education in accordance with contemporary educational reforms. The scheme has been implemented from the academic year 2024–2025.

Compulsory Subject “AEC- Marathi” for B.A. Students:

As per the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), Marathi has been introduced as a compulsory subject under the Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) for B.A. students. The course aims to improve students’ language proficiency, communication skills, writing abilities, and understanding of Marathi language and culture. It also helps students develop practical and applied language skills required in academic, professional, and social life. The syllabus and implementation of the AEC-Marathi course are prescribed by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University and have been implemented from the academic year 2024–2025.


P.G. – M.A. in Marathi in the faculty Humanities.

The Postgraduate Programme leading to the Degree of Master of Arts (M.A.) in Marathi is conducted in accordance with the Scheme of Teaching, Learning, Examination, and Evaluation prescribed by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University under the Faculty of Humanities. The programme follows the Two-Year, Four-Semester Master’s Degree structure based on NEP 2020 regulations with Entry and Exit options (Revised), implemented from the academic year 2023–2024.
