M-M Scheme Details

Mentor is an experienced person who advises and helps somebody with less experience over a period of time. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines mentor as a trusted counselor or guide. A mentor helps Mentee for his/her development. The mentor's role is to guide, to give advice, and to support the mentee. A mentor can help a person (Mentee) improve his/ her abilities and skills through observation, assessment, modeling, and by providing guidance.

Objectives of the Mentor Mentee scheme

  1. To monitor academic enhancement of the Mentee continuously.
  2. To monitor attendance and performance in internal exams of the Mentee and provide a support system to guide and motivate him/her.
  3. To identify and solve personal and health related problems of the Mentee.

With this purpose a well structured mentor-mentee system has been developed in the college. The teachers in the college as a mentor have been allotted a number of students under this system. The IQAC prepares the list of Mentor- mentee and allots to all the Teachers, the list is published on College website and Notice Board. The mentor collects all the personal and educational information of the mentee. The mentor focuses on the need of the students and regularly updates about the student progress. The mentor establishes consistent communication and counsels him/her wherever and whenever necessary and closely monitors the growth of the students. The mentor bridges the communication gap between parents and College by regularly updating the parents about the student’s progress and updates from the college.

Our ultimate goal through higher education is to mould and develop the students from rural areas overall personality and progress. After all, students are the pillars of the society. Fifty percent of the students are from nearby villages and with diverse socio-economic backgrounds. As they are from rural areas, the college environment is entirely new to them. Hence they face many difficulties in the course of their life. There are three programs available in our College viz Arts, Science and B.Voc. For the B.Voc. program the Nodal officer work as mentor to all the students. While preparing the Mentor-Mentee List for other programs, The IQAC Counts the number of admitted students and prepares the List of admitted students. Then the Fulltime Teachers allotted the same number of Students by dividing the Number of students by number of Teachers. The list of mentees of a Mentor contains the Mentees from all three classes. The Third year students from the list helps the Students as well as the mentor, it acts as a bridge between the new comers and the Mentor. The Mentor Teacher is a prime parent of the Mentee in College Campus. If any need or difficulty of the student is noticed by the Mentor he/she refers it to corresponding department and continuously follows it up to get the solution.

The college takes the help of social media to interact with students. Occasionally, students discuss about their difficulties in syllabus with teachers on WhatsApp group and Google classroom. Subject study material and tests are conducted on Google classroom. Instructions and Suggestions are also posted on the respective WhatsApp groups. Teachers keep the record of regular attendance of students. If any student remains irregular, it is informed to his/her parents. The teacher inquires his parents about his progress in study. Each subject teacher tries his/her level best to improve the result. The teacher keeps the record in diary. At the beginning of academic year, a diagnostic test is conducted to know the students previous knowledge. Admission committee counsels the students at the time of admission. Orientation programme is organized to familiarize the students with various subjects. The mentor conducts at interval meetings and discussion on various problems such as academic, financial, family awareness and so on. Slow and fast learners are identified and remedial classes are conducted for their well academic performance. Remedial classes for English are organized for the academic betterment of students.
